Dreaming Tree Le Chapeau Lady - Crafty Chefs Challenge Inspiration

Life is like a new hat.  You don't know if it suits you 
if  you keep trying it on in front of your own mirror.

 Hey there from Nannyland,

I'm thrilled to join in the fun at the October Craft Chefs Challenge on Face Book.  I was so lucky to have my name drawn last month to receive the "happy mail"  prize and I received the most beautiful card and extra die cuts from Monica ( Sunshine Creativity.)  Hurry...you still have time to pop on over to the Crafty's Chefs Challenge and add your creation to the mix! The recipe this month is:

              Do some coloring

              Use dry embossing.

My elegant lady comes from the Dreaming Tree Le Chapeau svg bundle.  Her fanciness was absolutely delightful to create using my Cricut Maker and Cricut Design Space.  Even though I own oodles of dry embossing folders, I rarely use them, mainly because I forget what a good option they are for adding texure and interest to my die cuts.  I chose to emboss my stylish gal's cascading hair with a swirly folder, creating some perky curls. The curved twigs are also embossed with the same folder. 

My new computer did a wonderful job of printing the coordinating fall digital papers for the hat. The face layers and twigs were cut from cream card stock and colored with Copc markers. The curving feature in Cricut Design Space made it easy to follow the shape of  the hat for my sentiment.  The twigs came from the Close To My Heart Flower Market set, which has hundreds of beautiful garden related images.  The earrings were cut from gold foil card stock and embellished with pearl gems.  The flower came from my stash and was adorned with a fancy coordinating gem. 

Even though my first love is Copic coloring, a close second is creating beautiful dimensional cards in Cricut Design Space, both simple or intricate.  The Cricut Image Libary includes every image I can imagine and there are also tons of  amazing svg's for every occasion available on the internet. It's incredible that just about anything I can envison, I can find the tools to create!

Hey there from Nannyland,

One of the most splendid ingredients of my favorite season is Halloween, with all its motley, quirky, colorful commotion. I'm obsessed with witches, but not the crabby, wicked kind.  I prefer the beautiful, mysterious, whimsical ones ala Morticia.  I loved coloring this darling Jeremiah Ketner miss called Pumpkin Collector in Halloween hues and designing a sparkly night sky to frame her.  

I die cut the frame with black glitter cardstock and created my silver foil stars with an awesome background die that has varying sizes of stars. I fussy cut my fancy lady and attached her to the background with mounting tape. The sentiment is a Tim Hotlz strip sentiment mounted on silver foil card stock. I've been enjoying using these small sentiments because they fit my cards without taking up too much space.

I pulled out several ravishing witches from my digital files today who are anxiously waiting to be given some spooky splendor.  "Witch" ones shall I choose?  Mwahahaha.

Dollar Store Haul - Glitter Blossom Makeover

Hey there from Nannyland,

Last week my hubby and I were banished to a nearby hotel while the cracking tile floor in our year-old home was replaced with a beautiful wood grain laminate. We are absolutely thrilled with the results.  However, the process could only be described as tumultuous with appliances, furniture and knickknacks askew in every room and dust flying with reckless abandon.  Of course, we couldn't confine ourselves to our boring hotel room, so we went on a mission of discovery in our fairly new town and did some serious shopping.  I hadn't been in a Dollar Tree since we left California, so I was delighted to see some new items in the craft area.  I excitedly filled my cart with whatever caught my eye because...well, it's a dollar.

I was happy to get back into Nannyland and get busy finding places to store my Dollar Store haul.  I came across some ancient paper flowers and decided to see how my new glitter glue would work at zhuzhing them up.  I expected it to be thinner and less glittery than the more expensive version, but I was delighted to find that a light coat brushed on my flowers gave them a beautiful shimmery sheen.  I bought several sheets of gem trim in various colors and used them as glitzy centers for my flowers. 

A cute container kept my glitter glue and brush out of the way while I painted.  

I bought several of these pretty plastic jars to store my new sparkly flowers on my shelves, along with my other handmade and designer flowers.  They have wider lids and are much lighter than the mason jars I previously used. 

Bright, cheery and functional! 

My smaller flowers are stored in a shallow drawer in my IKEA  Alex unit, which also houses gems, stamp pads and rulers.

  

I'm so happy to get reaquainted with my old friend, The Dollar Tree.  I never fail to find fabulous treasures there!

Think Pink - Breast Cancer Awareness Prima Princess

Sometimes the things we can't change end up changing us. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

My Pink Panoply logo was born a few years ago when I opened an Etsy store to sell handmade quilts, machine embroidered baby items and cards.  Many of my first lap quilts were created in shades of pink with an embroidered heart on the corner block in honor of breast cancer awareness, which has always been close to my heart.  My mom died too early of breast cancer, and my sister and I are both survivors, in my case twice.  So pink is more than just a beautiful color to me, it's a symbol of courage, hope and love. Every October during Breast Cancer Awareness month, I make it my mission to implore anyone within the range of my voice to get their yearly mammogram.  My first cancer was detected this way in 2005 and it literally saved my life.  

I have a very special recipient in mind for this card, who has just started her treatment for breast cancer.  She is young and has a beautiful life ahead of her to share with her darling family.  She is a warrior and I'm sure she will emerge triumphant from this challenging ordeal.  But in the meantime, I plan to do everything I can to help keep her spirits high. The Prima Princess stamp I used for this card is very appropriately called Grace.  My card base was sized to fit my image in Cricut Design Studio and my Cricut Maker did an amazing job of cutting all the lacy detail.  I paper pieced the dress with  breast cancer themed digital dp.  The pink jeweled breast cancer ribbon on the outside keeps things simple and there is  plenty of room inside my card for my personal note of encouragement.  

To my incredibly talented crafty tribe who love to make beautiful handmade cards and treasures to express your love for others, I commend you for uplifting the spirits of those you care for. Now, let's make sure you can do what you love for many, many years to come.  Please, "GET 'EM SQUISHED!"

Hey there from Nannyland,

When I actually have a moment to daydream, I can imagine myself as an enchanting maiden like the one in this grayscale image coloring book created by  Zan Von Zed.   Her amazing fantasy images are full of heroines in lovely gowns like the ones I admired in the beloved fairytales of my childhood.  I'm not certain I would trade my jeans and converse sneakers for a medieval frock, but I'd sure like to try it on to see how if feels to look this regal.  I'd love to have some luscious golden locks  thick enough to tie back with a stunning headdress. How would it be to have nothing more important to do than roam a lush garden maze  outside a timeworn gothic castle?   But in my world,  I would have to insist on a lavish ensuite bathroom with a huge shower and closet full of dry cleanable gowns.  That's where I wake up and realize how happy I am to be born in this era full of the creature comforts of life. What did that girl do without a cell phone?

I colored this image with Copics and created a dainty background that would accentuate her intriguing feminine gaze. I die cut the outer Spellbinders frame from iridescent white textured card stock and the inner insert from blue mottled designer paper which I lined with a gold leafing pen. The image was fussy cut and adhered to the background with mounting tape.  I adorned the frame with sparkly lavender gems and added a gold foiled sentiment.
