Dreaming Tree Super Dad SVG - Happy Fathers Day

Hey there from Nannyland, 

My struggle to create guy cards is real, but I have to admit I had a delightful time creating this Father's Day card for my hubby.  I downloaded this fabulous svg from the Dreaming Tree website and had a blast assembling their incredibly clever card.  After cutting the layers on my Cricut Maker, it took only a few minutes to do all the assembly and add a few fun embellishments.  All the pieces in this design fit together seamlessly like a puzzle

I didn't want to bother with messy sponging, so I added a few light shadows with Copics and colored pencils, which are always at the ready on my desk.  I paper pieced the tie because my husband would rather die than be seen in a boring one. The sample on the website had pearl buttons but I drew  small circles with  my pencils instead for a more masculine look...because, of course, the flowered tie and flower in the lapel are so manly. Hey, I was just trying to keep things balanced. I thought of adding a clever sentiment to the belly band, but the Happy Fathers Day was so cute, I went with that.

Creating this super fun card was definitely positive reinforcement to ease my guy card qualms.  I think I'll just keep hopping over to Dreaming Tree for my masculine card designs.  I've seen some really awesome ones I'm dying to try!

Father's Day Z-Fold - Cricut Design Space Lighthouse Scene

Hey there from Nannyland, 

It seems like most of the cards I make for my hubby are beachy. Maybe it's because I can use pretty, bright colors and still claim they are masculine, but I think the real reason is we have created some of our most treasured memories at the sea shore.  We were just youngsters when we moved from Utah to Los Angeles at twenty three and had only been married three years.  That is when the magic began.  We rode our bikes every weekend through Venus Beach to Santa Monica Pier when it was a "bikes only" path.  After six years of sunny bliss we moved to San Jose and spent many halcyon beach days in Capitola, Santa Cruz and Monterey.  We still gravitate to the gorgeous beaches in Monterey, Carmel and Pacific Grove, where my daughter lives, and make yearly trips to Hawaii.   I can almost feel the misty sea breeze on my face when I imagine walking on the warm sandy banks. 

I found lots of nautical images in the Cricut Design Space library to create this ocean scene on my favorite  z-fold card base.  I chose a lighthouse, palm trees, waves and clouds to populate my panels and cut them out on white card stock so I could color them with Copic markers.  I sized them to fit my card base and made sure my sun was large enough to accomodate my Cricut generated sentiment.   

Brown pearls were added to mimic coconuts and a white gel pen formed some foam on the waves. I layered the palm leaves to add extra fullness to my trees. I kept the other images flat for easier mailing.

I created an additional card to send to a friend who is having cancer surgery this week.  A change in the sentiment was all this card needed to make a cheery card for our beach-loving buddy.

Fathers Day Beach Scene - Lori Whitlock Pop Up Box Card

 Hey there,  

Initially, this adorable beach scene svg from Lori Whitlock seemed a little too ambitious for me to finish in a week for Father's Day.  A Guest Design Team project, birthday and quilting projects, along with pending cataract surgery were looming large and taking up my energy and mojo.   But  I decided to go for it, and I'm so glad I did.  

I like to cut out small pieces for a project like this in white card stock on my Cricut Maker, and then color them with Copics.  It's so much easier and I can shade them to give them a little more pizazz.  The card base, mats and  the two blue van layers were the only pieces I cut with colored card stock and it turned out to be a huge time  saver.  The  fish, sun, palm tree, coconuts and shell were all simple and fun to shade with my markers.  I used solid flat coloring on the small van pieces, which turned out even and streak less. I'm surprised at how much I like the end result.  Sometimes things just come together magically!

I've done so many of these Lori Whitlock pop up box cards, I can practically assemble them blindfolded.  Everyone loves a card that does tricks, so they're worth a little extra creative effort.
