When the crisp cool weather of winter begins, one of my favorite ways to relax is soaking up the brisk air as I sit on my patio reading a good book.  A snuggly warm jacket and a cup of warm apple cider are all I need to take me to my happy place.

Emma, the darling girl in this Zekesami digi, looks like she is exactly where she wants to be on a cool, winter's day.  I have colored her with Copic markers using warm citrus green and orange hues combined with cool winter shades of blue.  I fussy cut the image and mounted her on a lacy oval die cut frame and surrounded her with  bejeweled snowflake accents.  I was excited to find tiny matching green brads in my stash to add dimension to the front of her sweater. The dots on her mug were made with green and white fine line markers.  

                                      

I wasn't sure about my color palette when I started coloring, but I really like this mix of cool and warm non-traditional colors.  I'm having such fun branching out from my favorite color palettes and experimenting with some new combinations. The inspiration page was created using the Cricut cutting and writing features. 

Cool and warm, crisp and cuddly, I love all the contradictions of winter.  I hope you are looking forward to the magic of the season as much as I am.

Cinderella Fantasy Journal Page - Have Courage and Be Kind

Hey there from Nannyland,

I can't believe I actually coaxed my husband into watching the 2015 Disney version of Cinderella with me this week! I guess the Hallmark movies are convincing him that, with the depressing menu on TV now, sometimes a fairytale is the only antidote to falling down the bleak rabbit hole.  Whatever the reason, it was delightful having his company for this enchanting walk down memory lane.  I knew I had this adorable Krista Smith digi in my digital stamp library so I set about coloring her to create a page for my fantasy journal.  I attempted to make a little scene behind her with a Cricut fairy cottage, but I got carried away with  my die cut flowers and pretty much eclipsed the cottage with floral splendor.  Whatever, she rode to the ball on a pumpkin pulled by horses created from mice and doormen morphed from lizards.  A few massive flowers aren't that much of a stretch.  

                                                 

Actually, Cinderella's mom uttered the famous quote on her deathbed that I used for my sentiment.  Simple, direct and so appropriate.  A lovely thing to teach to young folks who need a little direction in their lives to help them form their dreams for the future. I like all my journals, but I think my fantasy one is fast becoming my fave.

Choose What Makes Your Heart Bloom - Lendel Art Journal Page

Happiness is when you've gotten really good at being you! 

Hey there from Nannyland,

The burgeoning spring flowers outside my window are getting as big as my head...well almost.  This gorgeous Lendel Art beauty seems to have picked one and has landed in my art journal peaking out with her alluring gaze. What a blissful way to spend a clear spring day, looking out of my sunny Nannyland window, while creating a blossomy page for my journal.  I choose to do what makes my heart bloom and encourage you to do likewise.   

My layered flower was created with a Heartfelt Creations stamp, die and mold.  In the center I have glued tiny clear glass beads that I've colored with a blue Copic marker. I used my markers to add additional shading to my originally pink flower and glued it to a large flower that is part of the digital image.  I attached my image to a swirly Spellbinders die cut frame and added dainty pearls to the corners.  

After attaching designer paper to the opposite page, I created the sentiment tag using the Cricut Design Space writing and cutting features.  I added a layered Tim Holtz die cut butterfly with an embossed vellum layer and some small Spellbinders flowers to adorn my tag.

Don't Let the Door Hit You - Mo Manning Chubby Witch

If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

There's been a lot going on here in Nannyland lately, most of it an enjoyable bustle.  My daughter will be leaving tomorrow after a wonderful visit with us from Copenhagen and then my hubby and I will be packing to fly to Maui for a week with our favorite travel friends. We plan to do some service for the survivors of the recent tragic fire that destroyed our favorite destination, Lahaina  I'm excited to have all the  distraction and excitement, now that my recent breast cancer challenge is ebbing.  I'm feeling great and it's time to embrace my usual  energetic zest for life. 

This digi image by Mo Manning called Chubby Witch is originally a little cranky looking but once I gave her a Copic makeover,  she began to perk up and look quite lovely in her fancy gown.  I like to feel pulled together myself, and I knew she would probably appreciate a little touch up, also.  I thought she was a little small for a 5 x 7 card and decided maybe I wouldn't have time to create a card with her, but when I saw this digi scene in my library, I knew she would look cute lurking around her haunted castle stairs. Then I saw this hilarious sentiment and it all came together in minutes.  The card measures 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 square, just enough room for my magical sorcerous to move between the candles and stairs, in case she has an uninvited visitor. After coloring her with Copics, I embellished her dress with Spellbinders mini flowers, Stickles, an acrylic glitter heart, assorted gems and white gel pen accents.    I just couldn't stop decking her out, but in the end I think she liked it, judging by the satisfied expression on her face.  I sometimes increase the size of the features on Mo's drawings to show their personality, as I did here. 

My doors will be closing and opening for friends and family in a welcome, peaceful way this Halloween.  But I don't mind a good natured ghost or two, as long as they mind their manners.

Polkadoodles Darling Buds Crocus Digi- A Beautiful Day for a Slimline

I really enjoy using slimline card bases because they offer a wonderful alternative to my usual 5 x 7 cards and afford lots of opportunity for creative design. Most of my favorite die sources have beautiful slimline options and I love collecting them to add to my stash/hoard.  

This pretty Polka Doodles lady is from their Darling Buds collection.  She is called Crocus and I found the digital download in their shop HERE.  After coloring her with Copic markers, I couldn't resist adding small flower dies from my Spellbinders collection to add texture and color to her basket and headdress.  I fussy cut her and adhered her to a slimline background panel which I edged with a gold leafing pen. This layer was attached to the back panel with mounting tape. I die cut and layered four scalloped outer frames for dimension.  My rub on sentiment is framed with a gem-studded hexagon.     

I hope I have inspired you to branch out with your card designs and include a slimline as a delightful option.

Conie Fong Susie Sunshine Digi Card - Cricut Design Space

If it doesn't feed your soul, let it go. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

What better way to convey love and caring thoughts across the miles than by sending a lovingly created handmade card displaying a beautiful soulful-eyed image like this one from Conie Fong Art.  This sweet bouquet-toting lady is called Susie Sunshine and you can find her in Conie's Etsy shop HERE.. 

I designed the 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 square card in Cricut Design Space using a cut file from the image library called Heart Scallop (#M43611164). It's so easy to use the writing feature to customize sentiments and perfectly position them on a card.  The scalloped heart layer is cut from red foil card stock and the scallops are embellished with white pearl gems. The white cardstock panel is dry embossed with a dot pattern and edged with a silver leafing pen, along with the blue base panel.  The pretty bow that comes with the heart image set is embellished with a red glitter acrylic heart, white die cut mini bow and blue gem.  I sized my image in Microsoft Word and downloaded it from my computer onto Xpressit blending paper. It was a delight to bring this adorable image to life with Copic markers, fussy cut her and then adhere her to my background with mounting tape.  

I'm excited to send this card to a friend who is going through a rough patch right now.  I wish I could be there to comfort her in person but I hope some handmade love will make her burden a little lighter. Paper Shelter Cute Bike - Always Enjoy the Scenic Route

Hey there from Nannyland,

Nothing could bring back happier memories for me more than this scene of a darling cyclist with a picnic basket full of goodies tied to the back of her bike.   Back in the 70's when I was first married, I lived in a gorgeous Los Angeles suburb called Glendale and my husband and I rode our bikes every Saturday on the bike paths near Santa Monica Pier.  It was a very different time then and sunny beaches were pristine and magnificent.  We ate fish and chips at our favorite bistro near the start of our route before we  embarked on our adventure.  Along the way we bought licorice at a shop in the quirky art colony of Venice, road past  the musclemen working out on Muscle Beach, past the piano player playing fabulous music on an old truck bed, past the man dressed up like Robinhood,  and down to the beautiful Santa Monica Pier.  It was a magical time.  

Unfortunately, my bicycle riding days are over.  I need to keep my brittle bones intact! But it was delightful reminiscing while coloring THIS adorable Paper Shelter image called Cute Bike. This darling  girl looks like she's having the best day ever.  I kept my Copic color palette minimal and stippled in a simple ground and sky background.  I used a white gel pen to add details to her shirt and sandals.  I adhered her with mounting tape to a graphic die cut frame and added matching glittery blue dots to the corners.  No fancy flowers or  fussy bling this time.  Just a simple sentiment that says it all.

I hope you have a chance this summer to find a restful place at the beach or in the mountains, or maybe just outside your own door, to experience the peace that a beautiful slice of nature brings.

Shaped Birthday Card - Lendel Art Digital Image in Copics

and the way you make others feel is your trademark.

I'm discovering some absolutely amazing digital artists on the internet who create just the type of images I love to color  and  Lendel Art is certainly one of them. This gorgeous image was a delight to color with my Copic markers in my favorite cool shades of lavender, blue and green.  I added some sparkle to her large earrings with colorful rhinestones. A die cut sentiment created the perfect birthday card for one of my girly friends.   

I knew this pretty lady needed a beautiful frame surrounding her, so I brought out my cherished Heartfelt Creations dies and created a shaped card base.  I die cut the decorative filigree layer in white shimmer card stock and added muted lavender and pink pearl accents.  I used the oval die in the set to cut my image, edged her with a gold leafing pen and adhered her to the frame layer with mounting tape for dimension.  I will add a die cut stand to my envelope when sending this card to make her easy to display.

Conie Fong Alanna Digital Stamp - You Are So Lovely

I often find myself reaching for Conie Fong images when I want to color something really soft and pretty.  This lovely image called  Alanna was such a joy to color in pastel shades of pink and aqua.  Conie creates the most luxurious tresses on her beautiful ladies, which makes them super fun to color.   

I've had this printed cardstock in my stash for ages, thinking its heavy weight would make a great card base. There are several different floral prints and the color palette on this one matched my image perfectly.  The black frame is a Heartfelt Creations 5 x 7 die cut embellished with pale pink pearls.  I fussy cut my image and attached her to a hand cut dp oval that fits the center of my frame.  After attaching my image with wet glue, I edged the panel with a gold leafing pen and adhered it to my frame with mounting tape.  I created the sentiment in Cricut Design Space with the cutting and writing features. 

I'm always looking for new card designs to spotlight my colored portraits, but my favorite standby is just a simple beautiful frame that makes my image the star.  I've noticed many of my favorite card makers have their own individual styles that define their masterpieces.  It makes their artwork recognizable and special.  I hope I have inspired you to discover your signature recipe to compliment your one-if-a-kind creations.

Janna Prosvirina Daydreaming Digi - Kit and Clowder March 2020 Pencil Class

 Be brave enough to be bad at something new. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

I took a giant leap recently and landed in the monthly Kit and Clowder pencil classes.  I seriously want to learn this new coloring skill that has always been super challenging for me.  I've done a couple of Alyce's pencil classes in the past, here and here, and have found them surprisingly satisfying, if only because they stretch my artistic capabilities.   However, my frustration persists as I struggle though the process of laying down the color and trying to blend it out. It's nothing like the seamless Copic coloring I've grown to know and love. 

I adore this gorgeous fairy by Janna Prosvirina and was excited to color all the wonderful detail that only pencils can achieve. It took me what seemed like forever and the result certainly wasn't anything like what Alyce was doing on her instruction video.  But, to my amazement,  I still had fun following along and I'm determined to practice with my pencils until the blending becomes more natural.  I'm proud of myself for sticking it out and my result isn't awful.

Now I'll stop whining and explain how my card was created.  The round die that frames her is from Spellbinders.  I cut the base layer from water color dp and the second ornate frame layer out of gold foil cardstock. I used lavender decorative gems for accents.  I added mini die cut blooms to the green foliage at the bottom and a gold foil die cut "hello" sentiment to the corner. The details were added with a white gel pen. 

I hope I have inspired you to stick with a skill that takes extra time and effort to learn, even if you are tempted to quit.  Mastering new techniques not only adds to our artistic prowess, but it teaches us patience and confidence.

Charming Little Regency Miss - Mo Manning Kate Digital Stamp

 Hey there from Nannyland,

This little Mo Manning miss is absolutely delightful, from her Regency style bonnet and frock to her pretty tulip and dainty slippers. She looks like she just stepped out of one of my favorite Jane Austen novels. Her name is Kate and you can find her in Mo's Digital Pencil shop HERE.  

I colored her darling gown and apron in Copic pastel blues, pinks and grays.  I showcased her fashionable straw hat with bright shades of yellow and adorned the pink ribbon with tiny Spellbinders flowers.  After fussy cutting her, I attached her with mounting tape to an ornate Anna Griffin die cut and embossed door, where she remains waiting for a visit from Mr. Darcy. The Jane Austen quote tag was created in Cricut Design Space using the cutting and writing features. The door and tag are lined with silver foil card stock. 

I hope I have inspired you to create a piece of art that transports you to a place and time you love to dream about. After all, imagination is the stuff that sparks creativity.

Julia Spiri Vintage Lady Digital Stamp - Good Hair Day

I have a new hair style.  It's called "I tried."

Julia Spiri digi's are always so expressive, you can almost hear them talking. I love the way THIS lovely lady obviously doesn't hesitate to tell us what she's thinking.  Who wouldn't love to flaunt this gorgeous vintage coiffure under a stylish "picture hat."  I used Copics to color this beautiful light grayscale image and  was thrilled  the layered flowers I recently created with the Altenew Rose Flurries 3D dies added to her classic 40's flair.

It was disappointing to discover Heartfelt Creations will no longer be in business after this year, so I jumped at the chance to buy several of their 5 x 7 frame dies that I love so much. I die cut my frame with white shimmer card stock and added water color dp to the oval in the center. My image was fussy cut and added to the frame with mounting tape. I added small gems to the centers of the flowers for dimension and sparkle. The sentiment was created in Cricut Design Space with the writing and offset features.

I will save this card for my bff who has amazingly thick red locks that invite admiring glances wherever she goes.  Here's to the blessed people who seldom have bad hair days.  I wish I were one of them!

Collect Beautiful Moments - Ching Chou Kuik Fairy Wren Digi

Birds, butterflies and dragon flies - the gems that adorn nature with their splendid beauty and grace. The world wouldn't be fully dressed without them!  The fairy wren in the foreground of this beautiful Chou Kuik digital stamp was a treat to color with Copics in its traditional shades of blue and lavender. These vivid hues inspired the rest of my blue, lavender and green palette. As always,  Chou Kuik's stunning images call to me with their soulful eyes and amazing detail.  

After coloring her with Copic markers, I fussy cut this lovely delicate lady and adhered her with mounting tape to a lacy Heartfelt Creations die cut frame. The scallops are garnished with white iridescent  gems.  Her fairy wren companion is nestled in a cluster of die cut flowers and leaves.  Her leafy head band is embellished with tiny purple pearl gems.  I stamped a Tim Holtz sentiment on a die cut tag and edged it with a gold leafing pen.  I added small details to the image with a white gel pen.

Flapper Emma - Pink Gem Designs Digi

 Be okay with not knowing for sure what's coming next, 
but know whatever it is, you will be okay. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

Yayyyy!  I'm basking in all the wonderful creative vibes swirling around Nannyland after my surgery last week and it's absolutely blissful. It's so good to shut the world out and imerse myself in a wonderland full of positive possibilities.  I haven't colored for a while but I'm feeling my mojo slowly returning and I think a Copic session would perk me right up.  Until then, I'm happy that I saved this elegant lady I created before my surgery to bring on some springtime cheer.

This adorable image from Pink Gem Designs is called Flapper Emma. I used a complimentary yellow, lavender and aqua pallette to create a bright, vivid design.  After adhering my Copic colored image to my embossed  Anna Griffin oval frame,  I added some pearls and mounted it on a yellow  5 x 7 card base.  The pearl and gem studded flowers adorning Emma's hat and frame are from Spellbinders.  Purple and gold gems trim her hat band and necklace.  I found the perfect gold sentiment in my stash to complete the layout.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that creative, happy thoughts work hand-in hand with lifesaving drugs and are a very important part of healing.  How blessed we are as makers to have access to this restorative and envigorating tonic.  Let the creative revival begin.

Be a Mermaid in a Sea of Fish - Conie Fong Liliana Mermaid Digi

Hey there from Nannyland,

I miss designing for Conie Fong lately,  but that doesn't keep me from coloring her gorgeous images to calm my soul while I anticipate surgery and radiation.   I've been undergoing umpteen diagnostic tests recently, and as a distraction, it's fun to imagine the sunlit beaches I visited often when I lived in California.   So it's no wonder Conie's delightful, heart-warming images are the ones I reach for when I want to relax and think soothing thoughts. 

This cute Conie Fong Liliana Mermaid image couldn't be more adorable with her splashy outfit and couquetish pose. After coloring her with Copic markers, I added details with a white gel pen.  I created a glittery blue  ocean wave background panel  in Cricut Design Space and layered it with a small white ocean- themed die cut frame.  The flowers are created with  Spellbinders die cuts and the sentiment uses the Cricut cutting and writing features. 

I'm looking forward to a restorative trip to Hawaii the minute all my breast cancer drama is over.  I'll be blissfully lying on the sandy beach in Maui conjuring up beautiful mermaids and magic dragons!
