Hey there from Nannyland,

Hmmm. What is it about creating art journal pages that is so satisfying for me?   I think it has something to do with creating for the joy of the process and not feeling like it will be exposed to the scrutiny of anyone else. But that doesn't really make sense because the people I send my cards to are always so complimentary and non-judgmental, so it must be my own eagle eye that intimidates me.  I think that's such a common theme among artists.  We are our own worst critics.  Anyway, I'm having the best time coloring, zhuzhing and using up all the extra space in my two-page journal spreads.

This beautiful digi is by Ching Chou Kuit, one of my absolute favorite artists.  Her amazing images are such a delight to color, with their soulful eyes and gorgeous detail. This image prints out in light grayscale, which can be challenging for me, but I love the gray shading on the flowers.  I used an Elizabeth Crafts border chain die on one side of my image and decorated it with round lavender acrylic rhinestones. The lacy butterfly on the word page is also made from Elizabeth Crafts layered dies that I've had for ages. I think they might be hard to find now.  A page from an old designer paper pad had the perfect sentiment and background to cover up my Dylusions Dyary calendar page. When I bring out some of my older dies and papers, I can't help feeling nostalgic because it's like reconnecting with old friends.  Another reason why I feel blissful when creating art journal pages. Anything goes with my eclectic stash.  

A couple more journal pages for the books!  Way too much fun.

Hey there from Nannyland,

I've been eager to color one of Mariola Budek's stunning digital images for awhile and this one caught my eye right away. Her gorgeous cascading locks were a delight to color in warm shades of brown.  The foliage has beautiful simple lines, so I just went with the flow in cool floral hues. 

My favorite Copics for coloring skin are E04, E21, E11, E00, and E000, with R20 for a little cheek color.  The E04 looks very dark at first, but when it's used sparingly to create cast shadows, it creates beautiful depth and dimension.

To finish my card, I die cut my favorite Spellbinders frame in white and mounted it on a light blue 5 x 7 card base.  I traced around the colored image using the inside of the die for my guide and fussy cut it, leaving some areas to overlap the frame.  The flower and leaves are handmade from my Heartfelt Creations stash.   I edged the sentiment tag and image panel with a gold leafing pen and added some Elizabeth Crafts peel off sticker gems to bring a little sparkle to the pink flowers in the image.  

I absolutely love the simple beauty of Mariola Burdek's beautiful art.  I can't wait to choose another gorgeous image from my digital library and lose myself in coloring!

Hey there,

Each time I color a Morgan's Fantasy Fae digital stamp with my Copics, I grow more enamored with  the beautiful detail in her incredible artwork.  This lovely fairy looks so ephemeral and regal with her bedazzled crown, I just had to place her in a magical garden where I imagine she rules as queen.  It's a dream I have in my own life but my family doesn't share the same vision.

I created the arbor in Cricut Design Space and decorated it with handmade Heartfelt Creations flowers and leaves.  Her crown is made of clear rhinestones and the beads in her hair are Elizabeth Crafts peel off gems.  I used the writing feature in Cricut Design Space for the sentiment.

Hey there,

I have loved Laurel Burch's brilliant artwork since I first saw it in the sixties.  I am still heartbroken when I think that she left this world at the young age of 61. Sadly, she was born with a rare bone disease that caused her crippling pain all her life.  Her art was a way for her to find her "happy place" to keep her spirits up.  She created a magical place of  bright colors and designs that drew me in the first time I saw it. Her legacy lives on and her joyful artwork is still popular today.  Happily, Stampendous has created some gorgeous stamps using her signature aratwork and I think I have every one of them.  THIS is one of my favorites because the elements come separately and I can play with the face and flowers to make my own dazzling blossoming woman .  I try to color them with the bright colors Laurel used in her paintings to get her iconic look

I created this card for my beloved sister-in-law who lost her husband and best friend of 54 years recently. He died at the age of 78 from an illness unrelated to covid. He was my husband's brother and a very kind and courageous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  My SIL fought like a warrior to get him released from the hospital amid all the covid restrictions and frenzy.  He was able to say goodbye to his family and die at home surrounded by loving care.  She shines like an angel to me.

Hey there, 

I absolutely love the stunning detail in Norma Burnell images.  When I color them I feel the need  to  slow down and enjoy every beautiful element of  her design.  They never fail to mesmerize me and take me to a tranquil world of my own. This Autumn's Wish fairy image has no grey scale shadows, which I'm finding I prefer. It's more relaxing for me to have the freedom of creating my own shadows as I color.  It's a little trickier and more random, but this is a fairy, and with all that twinkling going on around her, who can say where her light source is. 

I chose bright, vivid colors for my woodland fairy because I love all the magical rich tones of autumn.  I mounted my focal panel on a z-fold card and found the perfect sentiment in my stamp stash for the inside.

I like the way this card stands up for display and exposes the inside panel.  I embellished it with a lacy butterfly for a little added dimension.   The images are mounted on copper matte metallic card stock to compliment the fall hues.

Safari Z-Fold Card - Elizabeth Craft Jeep and Animal Dies

Hey there,

I finished these darling Elizabeth Crafts jungle animals and jeep  months ago and they  have been living on my craft table for weeks,  patiently waiting for an exotic place to live.  Since my husband and I love travel so much, and my husband's fondest dream is to go on an African safari, I thought my critters were perfect for a fun birthday z-fold box card. Too youthful? Nah, my husband has the youngest spirit I know.

He is quite knowledgeable about different countries and their characteristics, as was evidenced recently when he randomly informed me of the elevation of Kabul while we were watching TV.  So I thought I'd better find an Acacia tree for my African safari scene instead of jungle palm trees.  I think my monkey might be visiting his friends in Africa.  I happily found something akin to an Acadia tree in Cricut Design Space and considered my habitat "close enough."

My critters  were die cut from white card stock, with some layers additionally cut from craft foam to make them 3-D.  I colored the layers with copics...so much easier than trying to cut and glue tiny pieces with different colored cardstock!  I colored my zebra stripes right on my zebra rather than glue tiny pieces. Easy peasy.  I had a z-fold card template already created  in Cricut Design Space and all I had to do was find sun and grass images for my scene.  I typed, sized and printed out the sentiment in Design Space.  Sometimes play dates with my Cricut can make things infinitely less complicated!

Pearly Locks - Grazia Salvo Woman of Flowers 16 in Copics

Hey friends, 

My copics and these lovely digi stunners keep calling to me and I just have to acquiesce. It was absolutely heavenly coloring this gorgeous digital lady by Grazia Salvo from her Woman of Flowers collection. Now I've created birthday cards for all my crafty kindred spirits using similar images and I'm itching to change it up a bit.  I'm sure I'll be returning to these muses of mine soon and often because, well, they make me so happy!

I chose my favorite colors for this one because I think aqua looks so striking with the  red roses.  Her thick luscious locks provided me with an excellent chance to practice fine hair strokes with my copics.  I cut a curvy Elizabeth Crafts border die in gold,  accented it with pearls and cascaded it down her hair because even fabulous digi diva's need to accessorize.   

I used a Tim Holtz background die on my white glitter card stock background and edged the panel with a gold leafing pen.  The image is fussy cut and raised on the background with mounting tape to add some depth.  I used a white gel pen to highlight the flowers.

Goodbye for now, elegant digi ladies. I've got my eye on some pretty floral images,  Kit and Clowder coloring classes and  cute Mo Manning artwork to tweak my imagination.  No worries, I'm sure I won't be gone long.

Promise of Spring Fairy - Norma Burnell Digi in Copics

Norma Burnell creates the most beautiful fantasy art images with  loads of detail and interesting elements. It's a little intimidating trying to figure out where to start my Copic coloring, but it doesn't take long to get in the zone and the project comes together before I know it.

I used a lot of blue on this beautiful Spring Fairy image because it's my birthday recipient's favorite color. I sized the layered Anna Griffin frame in Cricut Design Studio to 5 x 7 and cut it out of lavender and blue glitter card stocks. The Elizabeth Crafts butterfly die cut is layered in vellum and blue card stock layers with blue iridescent pearls for the body.

It can be Spring any time of year in Copic Land.  That's why I visit there so often!

Hello Birthday Bouquet - Spellbinders and Elizabeth Crafts

Hi everyone,

This gorgeous square Spellbinders  frame die seems to be a fave of mine because I keep using it over and over without  realizing it.  I'm thinking some emergency  shopping for fancy square dies  is in order.  Gonna get right on that! Squares seem to be the perfect shape for many of my card creations and I can't get the clean intricate cuts on my Cricut that I'm able to achieve with dies.  Even though this is a birthday card, I thought the hello die cut fit perfectly on the front of my card. What's more happily universal than Hello?  I can add any sentiment I want to the inside of my card to fit my occasion. 

I cut my pretty Elizabeth Craft vase die and Spellbinder frame from glossy gold card stock. It's my favorite for making every card look elegant.   The Elizabeth Craft flower dies were cut from  iridescent mylar paper and I added her peel off stickers to the centers to fit with  my gold theme.  To balance my design, I added a Martha Stewart punched glitter butterfly embellished with more peel off stickers and then an opposing die cut greeting.  This card is fairly flat compared to most of my cards and can go through the mail easily, although I always have to use "nonmachinable" postage, especially with odd shapes.  I don't mind because our cards deserve a little TLC after the time we put into them, don't they?

Greeting dies are my favorite way of adding sentiments to my cards. They add a little dimension and you can find them in all shapes and sizes.  This Happy Birthday to You is one of my favorites.  It's elegant enough to dress up the inside of my card while keeping it clean and simple. It leaves me plenty of room to write a heartfelt message.

Stamping Bella "Charlotte Loves to Shop" - Anna Griffin Fantastic Flips Cricut Cartridge

I just can't resist choosing sweet, stylish Stamping Bella images for my birthday cards.  I was excited when I realized the size of this darling shopping Uptown Girl fit perfectly on the front panel of my flip card.  I used my Cricut Explore Air to cut out the Anna Griffin Fantastic Flips card base in Design Space.

The pretty bright colors on this patterned paper guided my choice of Copics for coloring Bella.  It's always a challenge for me to limit the number of colors I use because I'm often tempted to use "every crayon in the box."  For this image, I kept it to red, blue and green to keep my image from looking too busy.  

There are so many ways to use Anna Griffin Fantastic Flip cards.  Several different elements come with the Cricut cut so it's fun to mix and match. I cut an extra card base with the designer paper so I could layer some of my panels.  I kept the front panel of my card solid for my stamped image.  I  cut this tag shape in Xpressit Copic Coloring paper on my Cricut and then stamped and colored it before attaching it to my card.   Voila, perfect fit!

 I like these flips so much because there is plenty of room for creativity!  I embellished my die cut flowers and the flowers on the dp with Elizabeth Crafts Peel and Stick gems.  And, as is my habit lately, I used gold shiny metallic card stock for a couple of my frames and my sentiment.  No card is fully decked out without some sparkly accessories!

Silvery Floral Natalie - Prima Princess Stamp

I just discovered these amazing Prima Princess stamps and I'm positively hooked.  I already have seven of these lovely ladies and I'm not going to stop until I have the whole collection.  They're absolute heaven to color with any color medium but, of course, I choose copics. This bewitching lady is called Natalie. I colored her gorgeous locks blue, just like they were on the package she came in, because I would never have thought to color them that way myself and I love the look.

The stamps are big and are meant for larger cards (5 x 7ish) so I needed a frame large enough to showcase the whole image. I found this notched frame in Cricut Design Studio and I did end up cutting her down a bit to fit, but I like the way she fills the frame.  My embossed silver metallic frame is okay, but I think it's a little overwhelming and distracting for my image.  I'm going to use this same design for another image, but next time I will use softer colors to frame her and some soft paper flowers for more texture and interest, maybe even adding some to her hair.

I have several of these marvelous Prima Princesses already stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink just waiting to be changed from black and white to copically brilliant!  I'd love for you to visit again and see what I come up with.

Sparkle Like Barbie - Copics on Glitter

Hey there,

Barbie dolls came out the year I turned twelve years old (I know, I'm blessed to be very mature) and it was a delightful surprise that Santa brought me one for Christmas when I didn't even know who she was.  I thought she was absolutely fabulous with her dresses, shoes, purses and numerous tiny accessories to match.  She even had jeans and pajamas, for Pete's sake! My mom and all the ladies on the block were so enamored with her that I hardly got to hold her that day.  And the rest is history.  Barbies went on to be the most stylish and popular ladies ever. My two little girls had a collection of over 70 of them (some Kens, of course) each having a name, an occupation and a life to be admired.  Their dream house, cars and RV rivaled any I ever owned. I used to take my first Barbie down from my closet, all wrapped in her special case, and my youngest daughter would reverently stroke her hair with such admiration and wonderment.  I think my original Barbie is worth a ton now, but I will never sell her!

This weeks Free For All Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers was to celebrate Barbie's birthday by making a card showcasing an image with her in mind  I colored this beautiful Elizabeth Crafts peel off sticker image with copics because I think she definitely has luxurious Barbie hair.  Copic coloring on glitter is so fun and very forgiving.  The result is sparkliscious. Forget Me Nots Fairy in Copics - Norma Burnell Digi

Hmmm.  What do I create for my amazingly talented artist friend for her birthday card this year?  I could be intimidated and frustrated with all my efforts, but, as it happens, I love making cards for her because she is one of my most ardent supporters.  I have presented her with some pretty feeble attempts at art for many years, and she is always gracious and complimentary about every card I give her.  

My daughter with an art degree is the same way.  I think people who create art also appreciate the time and emotion that goes into any art piece. They are the ones who cherish and display our creations with love.  I adore the handmade cards my friends make for me and I save them all. 

I don't get too upset, however, when I think my handmade masterpieces might end up in the trash of some of my less artistically inclined recipients.  They are appreciative but just not as obsessed with the creative process.  Besides, I don't make my cards to be admired...I make them because I admire the person I'm sending them to.  I do have a mental list of "card worthy" friends whom I know cherish and display my cards and they, of course, will get more of them.  (One darling friend has created a banner with them!) And it sure makes me beam with joy when a true artist gives me some props!

I used Copics to color this gorgeous Norma Burnell digi.  The floral background and oval frame are die cuts.  My embellishments are Elizabeth Crafts peel off border stickers and a few pearls for the butterflies.  The finished card measures 5" x 7". So, do you think my friend will like it?

Autumn Fairy in Fall Shades - Norma Burnell Digi

For a Copic junkie like me, the autumn color palette is absolute heaven.  I find myself using color combinations I normally wouldn't use and I'm always surprised at how pretty they turn out. I guess I should pay more attention to Mother Nature.  She's the quintessential master painter of all things beautiful, after all. I made this card for my dear friend's November birthday.  

Here's my Panoply Pattern:

💁 TECHNIQUES:

1.   Download a beautiful image from this Etsy store. 
2.   Color image with Copics and colored pencils   
3.   Back image panel with slightly smaller rectangle of fun foam.
4.   Cut out card base and layers on Cricut 
5.   I resized my base in Cricut Design Space to A7 size
6.   Edge layers with gold metallic pen
7.   Add Stickles to edges of flower petals with small paint brush.
8.   Punch flourish with paper punch out of gold metallic card stock
9.   Change it up and make it your own.
