The Goddess is Alive and Magic is Afoot - Molly Harrison Witch

"As women, we have superpowers. We are sisters. We are healers. We are mothers. We are goddess warriors."  -Merle Dandridge.

Hey there from Nannyland,

I bought this fantastic sentiment stamp many years ago at one of my first stamp conventions, thinking it was begging for a magical image to bring it to life. I found a stamp of a fancy fairy with a wand and a long flowy dress, flying amidst a flurry of stars, and my first fantasy card was born.  It certainly wasn't the last!  I had no idea at the time that it would foretell the type of stamping and coloring I would eventually come to love. Who knew glamorous ladies of all ilks, especially fairies and witches,  would become my great obsession.  This beautiful mystical creature is a Molly Harrison digi stamp that I found in my abundant Molly  library, but I'm sorry to say I'm not sure where I got it. It may have been a free stamp.  Here is a link to Molly Harrison Art where you can find tons of images in all their incredible majesty. Her artwork completely draws me in with it's beautiful detail and captivating charm. I have many of her greyscale and line images and I like both, but I think I prefer the line images for coloring.  I love adding dimension and movement with shading and detailing without having to allow for the grey shading already on the image.

I chose a white lacy oval frame for my image to make the beautiful colors pop on my bright green card base.  After fussy cutting my Copic colored image, I adhered her to a gold edged water color digi background and then adhered the oval to my frame with mounting tape.   I used a white gel pen for details and added a lavender beaded embellishment to her hat.  I was excited to add my fancy stamped sentiment with its pretty font to enhance the mystical mood of my card.

What's more beautiful than a gorgeous fanciful enchantress to remind us that we are all Goddess's and are capable of creating our own "magic?" I hope you have an opportunity to conjure up a happy spell or two as you craft through this bewitching season.

Fairy of Spring in Prismacolors - Molly Harrison Digi

My heroes are the ones who survived doing it wrong,
who made mistakes, but recovered from them. Bono

Molly Harrison digi, Prismacolor pencils, gold leafing pen, Spellbinders frames,
beaded swirls, assoirted flowers, yellow glitter card stock

Hey there,

I was thrilled when Santa brought me the whole gigantic set of 150 Primacolors and I couldn't wait try them on one of my girlie digis.  Although I am obviously obsessed with my Copics,  I was excited to try a new medium and learn some untried skills. Kit and Clowder classes are the way to go for me, because I can watch a step-by-step video and learn visually.  I chose  THIS gorgeously detailed Molly Harrison image for my first attempt because, well, she's so pretty.

Pencils are literally a whole new ball of wax for me.  They take much more time and patience than Copics but I love all the amazing detail I can achieve.  I was in the "zone" for hours trying to smooth out the tooth in my paper after lightly applying endless layers of color.  I didn't think I needed to brush the flakes off my work periodically, and I was sorry I didn't heed Alyce's warning.  Who would think pencils could get messy and out of control!  But, in the end, I'm happy with the results of my first venture and I'm ready to give it another go.

It's exhilarating adding  a new tool to my artistic arsenal and I feel energized now to push my boundaries.  I'm determined to practice with my pencils until they become second nature to me...however long that takes! 😊

Thanks for visiting,
Go forth and expand your horizons with a new skill.

Molly Harrison Moonlight Solstice - Fairy, Polar Beat and Copics

"The color of springtime is in the flowers; the color of winter is in the imagination.”

I admit, I'm a wimpy Californian who never sees snow unless I seek it out in some distant nether region,  but I still remember how mounds of soft white snow look and feel.  I spent many delightful wintry days growing up in Utah and I reminisce about how beautiful the mountains and fields around me looked with a fresh new layer of untouched, sparkling snow. I wouldn't want to go back to the icy roads, slippery sidewalks and freezing extremities now, but as I colored this image, I could imagine being this lovely fairy on a still winter night with the beautifully sparkling northern lights  around her and I drew a peaceful breath.

The magical fairy image is this digi art featured in the January 2017 Kit and Clowder online coloring class.  I followed along with the video and I'm pretty happy with my results but, as usual, I made plenty of mistakes so I think I'll practice on this image a few more times.  I enjoyed learning how to do the Northern Lights sky and I'm excited to use this technique again on some other mystical night scenes.  It's really not difficult to accomplish, although it takes a little time and concentration.  This card is 5 x 7 but some parts of the image are small and I struggled to get the contrast I wanted on the fairy. However, I got some much needed practice using a light  touch with my copics.  Alyce Keegan is such a genius at this and I really enjoy learning from her.

When I spend time and effort coloring an image, I always want it to be the focal point of my card, but I still couldn't resist framing it with something glitzy. That vivid sky just begged for it.  I used a Spellbinder frame die to cut this glossy gold frame and added some magenta rhinestones for a little bling.  It's my thing.

I feel like I've paid my yearly homage to the joys of winter...now I'm going to dream of a sweet early  California spring.

Thanks for visiting.
Go forth and create something beautiful.
