Hey there from Nannyland,

I agree with Anne Shirley of Green Gables, Octobers are magical!  The mountains around me are starting to take on lovely rich fall hues and there's even a little snow the tops!  The air is crisp and the sky is an expanse of clear blue, just like the one that cute little Mercy is enjoying as she carries her basket of apples across an autumn orchard. 

 I began coloring this little beauty from Mo's Digital Pencil with neutral, pilgrim-ish colors, but my Copics went in another direction, and before I knew it I had a bright primary thing going on.  Oh well, I think the bright shades harmonize with the rich reds, oranges, yellows and browns of the changing leaves very well.  I fussy cut Mercy and adhered her to a fall digi scenic background.  I used white Tattered Lace nesting die cuts to frame her and glued the panel to a subtle striped dp background.  I added polka dots to her skirt with a white gel pen for a little pizazz.

Conie Fong Guest Design Team Project - Sweet Annabelle Digi

The soul always knows what to do to heal itself.

Hey there from Nannyland,

I've been absolutely delighted with my opportunity to color several of Conie Fong's incredible images for my Guest Designer spot at Conie Fong Art and Design for the months of June and July.  This fresh, breezy image is called Sweet Annabelle and you can find her in Conie's Etsy store HERE.  

Sweet Annabelle is clearly comfortable strolling through her garden in bare feet, filling her basket with colorful blossoms.  I love using Spellbinders Mini Blooms and Sprigs dies for my flowers because  their small size works perfectly with the scale of most of my cards and they're great for adding dimension and color.  I usually  size my images to about 4 x 6 inches, leaving room for a frame on a 5 x 7 card. It's much easier (and a lot more enjoyable) to color fine details on larger images.  This one is tall and narrow and fits nicely on an intricate Tattered Lace tag frame. The main panel is adhered to a tag card base that lives in my Cricut project library.  I created the sentiment in Cricut Design Space using the writing, off-set and cutting features.

It's easy to see why Conie's darling images are among my digi faves because they all  exude such wonderful personality and style. Copics and a Conie digi...the perfect way to keep cool on a "dog day afternoon."

Paper Shelter Art Nouveau Bloom - You are the Sweetest

The expressive eyes and dainty pose on this adorable Paper Shelter image remind me of the gorgeous prom pictures I've been seeing daily on Facebook. When I saw this angelic face smiling back at me in my digi library,  I knew I had to color her and create a girly spring card for a sweet friend.   

This original digital download features an ornate ring in the background with Art Nouveau-style butterflies and flowers.  I chose to keep my card a little simpler and reserve the prime real estate in the ring to design my sentiment. I love the ability to accomplish this in Cricut Design Space.  I measured the diameter of the circle and created a shape on my Cricut canvas with the exact dimensions.  I used the slice feature to cut out the middle to create a ring.  Using the curve feature with my font, I sized my sentiment to the ring.  I was delighted to see the cut-out ring was a perfect fit behind my image! I edged it with a gold leafing pen and glued my fussy cut image to the center.  The completed panel was bordered with a white Tattered Lace die cut frame and then adhered to a blue 6 x 6 square card base using mounting foam.  

The Paper Shelter always includes pretty coordinating backgrounds with their images but I seldom use them because I like a more layered look. However, I think this one looks beautiful behind the ring just as it is.  I added handmade Heartfelt Creations flowers and a die cut beaded dragonfly for embellishments.

Memories of dressing up in a fancy dress for prom always bring a nostalgic smile to my face.  I'm so happy this joyful tradition has endured after all these years and seems to be in full bloom again this spring.

Power Poppy Dancing With Daffodils - Kit and Clowder January 2020 Monthly Class

Nothing in nature blooms all year.  Be patient with yourself.

It's been a while since I've had a chance to sit at my desk and color, and it felt exhilarating to take  a breather and create some art.  Few things are more enjoyable to me than getting lost in a sea of bright Copic colors and a stunning new image. 

I seldom color flowers as my focal image but I needed a  card for a dear friend who has recently lost her grown son and I knew this lovely Power Poppy digi would make a beautiful sympathy card.  This image was the subject of the January 2020 Kit and Clowder markers class and I enjoyed following along with Alyce Keegan and watching her create her depth and texture magic. After I finished my coloring,  I carefully die cut the image with a Tattered Lace frame die and adhered it with mounting tape to a black glitter card stock frame in the next size. I chose a lavender panel to compliment my yellow daffodils.  I added a couple of  handmade Heartfelt Creation flowers to the garden for a little pop of texture.

I'm excited to expand my artistic repertoire and include more elements of nature in my coloring.  Learning and practicing new techniques is extremely satisfying and just plain fun.

Wishing You a Beautiful Spring - Conie Fong Ella Fleur Digi

 Life is a flower and love is the honey. 

Hey there from Nannyland,

The first day of spring has already sprung and things here are definitely starting to bloom. Unbelievable! It's time to take a  minute to remove the cobwebs after a long eventful but very disquieting winter.  I have been looking forward to  coloring this beautiful Conie Fong image for a while and was happy to spiff her up with a perky handmade flower. Actually, that might be a little fib.  I didn't like my coloring on the flower and, after much practice,  I'm getting quite proficient at covering my boo boos.  

I used two Tattered Lace frame dies to create her stitched gold frame and mounted her on metallic gold and  aqua designer paper to match her water colored dp sky.  The sentiment was created in Cricut Design Space and edged with a gold leafing pen.  I added a tiny white glittered and gemmed butterfly to the background.

I love making Heartfelt Creation flowers with their stamps, dies and molds.  I am planning to spend the day making some soon and will demonstrate this fun technique in a future blog.  

I'm trying to get better at finishing the inside of my cards at the time I make them, so I can use the leftover materials I have at hand and make things cohesive.  It's frustrating getting ready to send a card and having to get things out to finish the inside.  With this card, I will just die cut a sentiment and everything will match.  A good habit to aspire to.

Are you wearing a little green and feasting on corned beef and cabbage today?  I hope you're joining in the festivities of St. Patrick's Day, at least in some small way.  I have visited Ireland and the lush green landscapes of this magnificent island are unbelievably breathtaking.

If I could  choose any form of talent to excel in and passionately display to the world, it would be dancing...specifically Irish dancing. Seriously! My spirit soars when I hear the exhilarating music and watch the agile, energetic dancers leap around to its rhythm. This perky little Irish dancer digi by Mo Manning with her thick auburn tresses and traditional dancing frock was a joy to color in Copic shades of green, purple and yellow. I used a white gel pen to add a little bounce to her underskirt.

I found a gold edged shamrock in my stash to embellish her head band. Her water colored rainbow digi background is sprinkled with purple and iridescent flat sequins.  The shaped card base is cut with two nesting Tattered Lace frames.

Vera Lane Princess - Covering the World With Glitter and Pearls

After pondering some meaningful optimistic resolutions I could adopt for the shiny new year ahead,  I have decided the sentiment on this card is perfect for my new mantra. Let's dress up and show up in a sparkly way! 

After my third eye surgery in a year,  I'm ready to open my eyes and see all the amazing beauty in the world and leave the wearisome, challenging events of the past year behind me.  This little Vera Lane princess was such a delight to color and embellish with bounteous bling.  I found the perfect background paper in my digi stash to create a magical landscape. 

  

       

I chose bubblegum pink acrylic gems to adorn her majestic crown and popped on a glittery gem as a focal point. I used a silver leafing pen to line the sentiment tags and background panel. The fancy Tattered Lace die cut arch is also lined with silver and, of course, trimmed with pearls.

The world could use some sparkle right about now.  Let's get sprinkling!

Aloha From Home - Mo Manning Pineapple Girl

Hey there from Nannyland,

I should be eagerly packing for a much anticipated trip to Hawaii next week, but the Governor has politely asked tourists to stay home while the State gets its off-the-charts Covid numbers in check.  I'm happy to comply and know that I will be able to return there soon when things settle down.  In the meantime, I'll just pacify myself by coloring some sunny tropical images.  This adorable Mo Manning digi called Pineapple Girl is just what I needed to put me in a happy beachy frame of mind.

The shaped card is created with Tattered Lace nested frame dies.  The background comes from my ever growing collection of digi backgrounds.  I'm loving digi papers more and more because they take up no space and it's easy to scroll through them on my computer to find just what I'm looking for.  I lined each panel  and the sentiment (created with the Cricut writing feature) with a gold leafing pen and added  a bejeweled flower and butterfly for a little glitz.  I used mounting tape to attached my fussy cut image to my main panel.  So fun, so easy, so sunshiny.

I've been longing for a stroll in a lovely, light fall rain shower...a delightful one that smells fresh with just a bit of a cool breeze.  I hope you have escaped the scary tumultuous weather rolling over us lately and can dream with me of some crisp autumn days to come.

I've been blissfully coloring several Mo Manning images the past few days because my soul needs a rest from the chaos surrounding us and her playful characters always make me smile.  Doesn't the perky duck in this fabulous image look like a fun splashing partner? And no leash required! This shaped card is created from three layers of nested Tattered Lace dies.  I have several sets in different shapes and they are quickly becoming my faves because they are so versitile.  The cloudy sky is from  my digi papers collection and the ground is shades of gray Copics with some dabs of rubbing alcohol (with a Q-tip) for texture.

An uncomplicated, bright, mirthful card was just what I needed today.  Nannyland is always the first place I land when my spirit needs a boost.  I hope you have created a happy tranquil haven where you can relax and express your creativity, also.

Girl and Constellation - Kit and Clowder May 2021 Markers Class

Hey there from Nannyland,

This magical image called Girl and Constellation was the May 2021 markers coloring class from Kit and Clowder.  I typically watch  Alyce's expert coloring video all the way through first, and then color the image without guidance.  I find that following along with the video, with starts and stops, interferes with my mojo and my results usually look pretty contrived.  Going with the flow gives me the opportunity to experiment a little and add some of my own touches.

I always enjoy turning my Kit and Clowder artwork into cards so I can share the results of my efforts with people who will appreciate them.  Adding die cut frames, sentiments and bling makes everything feel polished and complete. 

Add ripped denim and  bokah skies to my coloring repertoire, thanks to Alyce's super fun instructions.  I'm excited to pluck another art class from my accumulated stash and see what new handy skills I can soak up next time.

Honey Bees and Flowers, Please - Gorjuss Girls Bee-Loved Stamp

Hey there,

Some of my favorite stamp images are Gorjuss Girl images from Santoro.  They can be a little hard to find, but I recently purchased this cling stamp on the internet and couldn't wait to color her cuteness and create a card.  She measures about 3" x 6" and fits nicely on a 4" by 8 1/2" tag card base (slimline) that will fit into an A-10 envelope.

The beautiful lacy tag die cuts I used for my background are from Tattered Lace.  I sponged the top panel with pink chalks to add some color and depth.  I dotted my sweet little bee's wings with a white gel pen and her skirt with yellow Nuvo Drops.  The flower on her waist has a little pink gem in the center.  I used the cutting and writing features in Cricut Design Studio to create the tag card base and sentiment.  The back layer looks a little orange in this photo, but it's actually metallic gold card stock. 

These adorable Gorjuss Girls come without faces and I find it fun to add a little personality by creating a face with my Copics.  I think they're super cute either way...I'm just used to coloring facial features so it comes natural to me.

Hey there,

Three years of Kit and Clowder classes are tucked away in binders on my shelf, waiting for me to take the time to follow along with Alyce's expert video instructions. It's a treat to open them and discover my next coloring challenge.  Trouble is, I love coloring images of feminine women so I have lots of practice coloring skin, hair and clothing but not so much anything else. I have challenged myself to take on varied floral images to gain more confidence when they show up as part of my coloring.  

Flowers come in such an array of  gorgeous forms and colors, they are a joy to shade and shape with Copics. I colored the lovely blooms in this Kit and Clowder January 2020 class for a spring card for my friend.   Alyce shows us how to add texture and depth which is useful on any type of floral image. I usually make a card of my finished artwork so I can pass it on to someone I love.  Since my shaped card base doesn't  stand flat for display,  I created a die cut stand in white. I printed the sentiment using the writing feature in Cricut Design Space.

Flowers are such a delight to color and very forgiving with all their uniqueness.  After all, nothing in nature is perfect but  most of it is absolutely stunning. I think I'll set out for a walk and fill my eyes with all the hues and textures of my magnificent southwest landscape.  It's a happy sunshiny spring day out there.

Hey there,

Spring is in the air here in beautiful Southern Utah and  I couldn't be more excited to take some exhilarating walks through the exquisite landscapes around my new home.  The temperature is in the 70's today and is predicted to continue next week with the sky as blue as the dress on THIS lovely Ching-Chou Kuit fairy.  I might not see many fields of red poppies here in the desert, but I'm beginning to see lots of gorgeous greenery blooming against the red clay hills and lavender mountains. If you have ever visited Zion National Park, you know how utterly stunning it is here.  

I chose to accentuate the beautiful layers in this fairy's elegant dress with pleats and origami paper piecing.  Tattered Lace die frames surround my image and  swirly floral die cuts accentuate the corners.  I added some red gems to the corner dies and dotted the centers of my poppies with a white gel pen.  A gold gem garnishes the adornment on her dress.  I chose a generic "wish" die cut sentiment.
